Can I get help with adding RAM to my ACER Aspire XC-704 Desktop?

I purchased Crucial memory module (CT7956030 CT51264BF160B.C16FN2 UPGRADE FOR A ACER ASPIRE XC-704 SYSTEM) which they assure me is compatible with my machine. When I install the memory the computer won't switch on. The fan on the CPU starts spinning but nothing else, e.g. the power switch doesn't light up. I tried swapping the module with the one that came with the machine and it worked fine. Does this mean that the problem is with the second memory socket?

Does it work with just the new module and not the original one? The XC-704 supports different memory speeds, but does not support mixing different speeds in the same system:

The Crucial part number you posted is for a 1600MT/s module. If the original module is 1066 or 1333 you'll need to purchase a second module to go with it. I see on Crucial's page that they offer an 8GB module as well, but the specs don't show that as compatible.
