Hello,
I own a aspire vx5. Whenever I start up the laptop I get a "blank screen" which can only be resolved through a "force shutdown" which I have to do everyday.

I was hoping somebody may be able to help resolve the problem?

Many thanks.

I see that this issue was reported and a new BIOS update version v 1.04 was released to resolve this issue.
Go to system information and check the current BIOS version and update it
You can also directly update BIOS to v 1.06

Note : Upgrading your system BIOS incorrectly could harm your Acer product. Please proceed with caution. Keep the charger plugged in.

Sometimes the black screen problem keeps happening because fast startup is enabled on your computer.

While in Safe Mode, you can use the following steps to disable fast startup:
    Open Control Panel.
    Click on System and Security.
    Click on Power options.
Select the Choose what the power button does link on the left pane.
Click the Change settings that are currently unavailable link.
Clear the Turn on fast startup (recommended) option.
    Click Save changes.
Restart your computer to complete the task.

    Thanks.

My specs state that I already run BIOS v1.06, which seems to be the latest version available on the support site, except, mine was installed on the 7th of July 17, and the BIOS v1.06 on that site seemed to be released on the 26th of July 17.

    What do you think?

I am also facing the same issue of black or blank screen and my keyboard works. So I tried to open task manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc and killed the explorer.exe process and opened the same task i.e. explorer.exe. It does work this way sometimes but if that doesn't help you, you can try to log off your user account from the "Users" tab in Task Manager and login back again. This alternative will work.

Nope. It's just a blank screen. Not totally blank, it emits light.

Thanks. After I force shutdown and the computer starts up regularly, then, I can shut down the computer and start it up again without the blank screen. The problem seems to occur when the computer has been shut down for a certain period of time.

Click "Yes"  if this answers your question.

Try to go to safe mode, uninstall the display adapter driver and restart your computer.

    Safe Mode
At the sign-in screen, hold the Shift key down, click the Power button on the bottom-right, and select Restart.
Once you're the advanced startup menu, click Troubleshoot.
Click Advanced options. Click Startup Settings.
    Click the Restart button.
On the Startup settings, press 5 or F5 to enter in Safe Mode with Networking.

Once your computer is in Safe Mode, you can try to open device manager to uninstall the drive.

Also. check if there was any window update that caused this issue and restore you computer to previous restore point.

Thanks. I've done this. I'll have to wait till tomorrow morning to test it out.

Just a correction regarding the description of the blank screen: it actually starts up with the ACER logo, which then, dissappears, and rather then going to the login screen, shifts to the blank screen (i.e. frame with the ACER logo without the ACER logo).

So, just to clarify: it's not a black screen and there is no cursor. There is brightness. The same level of brightness that is present during the splash screen.

This seems to have worked so far. Started up this morning with no problems. Many thanks.
