Acer E5-575G update of Intel Management Engine fails.

I have tried updating the Intel Managment Engine on my Acer E5-575G notebook using the guidelines from the following link : https://us.answers.acer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/51890
I run linux but have created a windows 10 PE UDB disk to do the update. Following the directions included in the zipped file I successfully updated the ME windows driver, but when I try to update the ME firmware the command fails with the following error message:

Error 8743: Unknown or Unsupported Platform
Cannot locate hardware platform identification
This program cannot be run on the current platform

My BIOS version is the latest version 1.29

I need some advice on how to proceed ?

Also, will there be a future BIOS/ME update via the normal channels that solves this problem, and if yes when ?

Why not just temporarily install Windows as dual boot with your linux? And then update firmware/BIOS using windows.

If you read my post carefully, I did actually try to install it using a Windows 10 PE on a USB stick. Works nicely, but the update failed. I will have a look at your links and see if it is worthwhile. Installing Windows on an existing Linux host is however normally a dangerous undertaking, which runs the risk of damaging your existing Linux. The problem seems to be that it will destroy existing partitionings. I tend to think that the Acer recommendations are flawed somehow and it is not possible to update the Inte ME/TXE firmware because it is not enabled, and the BIOS has no options to enable it. On the good side, if it is not enabled, then it can not be exploited. Accoreing to various documentation, a remote exploit of the ME enging would occur to TCP ports 16992 (http) and 16993 (https). When probing these ports there seems to be no services available, and I therefore doubt ME is enabled at all, and therefore probably not able to update. I just wonder what the point is then of the recommendation. But maybe I am wrong. Hope someone with some insight from Acer will read this thread and clarify.

Thanks for the advice. But since I have already tried it using windows 10 PE on a USB I don't see a point in going through the elaborate procedure with the risk of losing my present Linux partitioning and grub configuration. I have tried similar things previously and usually there is a catch. In this instance the simple grub reinstall mentione would have created a bios grub install, and would have to be modified for an UEFI configuration. But thank you for taking time to answer my question. I still hope someone from Acer get to the rescue and tell me what to do.

Ok, I think you should post your complete model number. You've only posted a partial model number. Your complete model number will have E5-575G-????
I assume your computer came pre-installed with Windows 10.

If your computer came pre-installed with Windows 10, I'm doubtful that they'll supply you with a custom solution if you chose not to use your computer as sold, but who knows. Good luck with that anyway.
