Aspire E15: Is there a way to disable the lid sensor through software, to avoid an expensive repair?

The lid sensor seems to be broken, in that the screen goes off after a few seconds of using the touchpad or keyboard. I've read elsewhere that the laptop can be dismantled and the sensor chopped out or replaced but is there not a way to disable this function?

Open Control Panel. Search LID. Then play with the power plan settings so that nothing happens whether or not lid is open. Jack E/NJ
