Amazon Assistant (or 1click) will not unistall

I tried the following:

1) The control panel uninstaller (25 x)
2) Restoring Windows (3x)
3) Running Malwarebytes and MWB Adwcleaner and Beta Rootkit, Zemana AMW, Mcafee AV and Rootkit. ( I quarantined and/or removed AA PUP when it showed up--and it did)
4) Removing extensions from Chrome and Firefox
5) Uninstalling and Reinstalling Chrome (2x)
6) Calling Amazon and spending two hours retrying everything listed above--and having to listen to profuse apologies from the attendant as to why nothing will work.
7) Kept returning to the task manager and clicking "end task" on the AA until it--finally--went away.

I have not removed extensions, addons or plugins from IE or Edge. I have not gone into the registry and tried removing the AmazonBrowserbar.3.0.dll or the AmazonAssistant.aa.hta. I haven't tried reloading the OS from the Acer USB HDD, because when I get to the "OK" screen the touchpad stops working--and I haven't got a mouse handy (and it is four degrees outside so I am not going to buy one at the moment!)

Any other ideas?  The uninstall menu still has the AA icon--but the uninstall button is greyed-out, so I can't make it go away. At this point, I believe that the AA is not longer functioning--I just can't get rid of the icon in the uninstall menu.

At its worst, the AA was toggling back and forth between AA and 1click, and opening empty "aa.hta" boxes on the screen in large numbers. That has stopped now--but I can't get rid of the bloody icon in the uninstaller.  I would be O.K. with leaving the icon in the uninstall menu if anyone is--reasonably--certain that the actual guts of the AA have been disemboweled and that it is not involved in some behind-the-scenes mischief.

Best,

What ACER model and number?  You probably can try a factory reset while saving your personal files. Jack E/NJ
