Boot of USB drive ?

Hi everybody,

I have been reading quite a few post and applied the info/answers but I am still struggling to boot from a usb stick.

As an xmas gift I was given Acer Aspire ES 15 Intel Pentium 8GB/2TB laptop.
I have managed to partition the hard drive.
I have previously used Clonezilla Imaging software and I wanted to make an recovery image for safety.
I installed the Clonzilla sofware to a bootable usb stick but I cannot bootup from it.

1. I can boot up from the usb stick on another Acer laptop so I know the usb stick is not the problem.

2. In the BIOS :-
MAIN I have enabled the F12 Boot Menu
SECURITY i have set a supervisor password.
BOOT - Secure Boot I have set to disable
- Boot Priority -> 1. USB CDROM 2.USB HDD 3.USB FDD 4.Windows Boot Manager

I am not able to change the BOOT MODE from [UEFI]

It still will not bootup from the USB stick.

Can anyone please give me some help/suggestions. Thank you.

You welcome.
I told you to use AMD64 version since most of the latest UEFI on Acer's laptops, are x64 compatible only.
Add that some OS and tools have a compatible efi boot partition for x64 systems only.

Repository AUTO
and download

- then download Rufus:

http://rufus.akeo.ie/?locale=en_US

plug your USB flash drive, run Rufus then:

select ISO image from the dropdown menu near "Create a bootable disk"

click on the little icon on the right and browse to the downloaded iso file

as Partitions scheme select "GPT partition scheme for UEFI"

as File system select "FAT32"

click on Start

wait until it finish, then uplug your USB flash drive

- Reboot to BIOS, pressing F2 at boot, then press F9 to load default and F10 to save and exit

- plug your USB flash drive and at boot press F12 (if F12 doesn't work, see if it auto-recognise the USB flash drive or press F2 to enter BIOS and enable F12 boot menu under BOOT tab), choose the USB flash drive as bootable device

IronFly, I have been reading a lot of your posts and see that you regularly recommend Rufus software.
Following a YouTube video I used Yumi software to create the the bootable USB stick and selected Clonezilla i686 version as Clonezilla list this as being more compatible to a wider range of laptops.

All that said I did follow you instructions. I was very pleased that the laptop did attempt to bootup from the flash drive but then displayed 'SECURITY BOOT FAIL'.
I re-entered the bios and disabled the Security Boot option. I am so pleased to report that I was then able to bootup from the USB flash drive into Clonezilla.
I have not actually created the restore image yet, but do not expect any further issues.

Just so that I understand things more; using Yumi USB Boot Creation tool I was able to bootup from the USB stick in an older Acer (Windows 7 HE) laptop but not with new Acer laptop. Can you give me any details why that was ?

I have since created my c drive/partition image using the USB Clonezilla.

I have an Acer Aspire One Netbook. I got it years ago and I recently ordered a new bigger hard drive. I cannot get my USB to boot up on it and I am wondering what boot should I use to get it to be recognized so I can get windows put back on it? Any help would be great.
