Well, I want to buy this laptop with 1 TB HDD and add a Samsung 960 EVO as primary storage solution. Will it work at SSD's full speed or will it be throttled to SATA3's speed?

This device's M.2 port is with SATA interface. You should be able to install NVMe SSD, but it will work at SATA 3 speeds.
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

Since Acer support didn't inspire me with confidence (they tested the laptop with PCIe ssd with no problem but I don't know if it was working at sata 3 speeds), I am going to buy a SATA 3 m.2 ssd to be safe. I don't think I am going to observe any difference between sata3 ssd and nvme ssd for the use I am going to do.
