gday i have an aspire laptop that will not boot into windows -i can get into bios but even that seems a bit laggy. The last action i was doing before the problem occurred was a windows update that seems to freeze at 62percent so i restarted laptop and now unable to boot windows.I have tried to do a factory reset alt-f10 but just goes to automatic repair and none of the advanced options or reset will function. I was going to upgrade to an ssd hard drive anyway but could it be bios issue? any help appreciated cheers

I don't think is a BIOS issue. Sometimes windows update can fail. You have to create windows installation media and install the windows a new. https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10ISO
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

had you try to a clean command from diskpart during installation?
this will wipe completely your HDD

press Shift+F10 at language/keyboard screen options, to enter Command prompt.
    once in command prompt type
    diskpart
    then on diskpart type
    list disk
take note of the correct disk ID to erase
    type
    select disk x
(x is the ID of your HDD to erase)
    type
    clean
    type exit

thank you for your reply ven98- i tried to reinstall windows 10 as you suggested using a usb stick but as soon as i get to the hard drive section of the installation my hard drive is showing 0mb available and i cant extend it or format it -is it possibly the hard drive that is the problem?

I think the hard drive might have gone bad or it may be something else. I had such a problem once and it was with a USB flash drive, which showed 0mb total storage. I tried many solutions, but none worked. I it might be the same case with your drive. You can try resetting the battery. Disconnect the laptop from mains, make sure it is switched off and follow the instructions here. If it doesn't work you can open the laptop and disconnect the drive for 10 minutes and connect it back. If nothing works you might need a new drive.
