Stuck at Mup.sys

I have an old Aspire 5570Z that has not been used in a long time. It is a dedicated machine to run a midi equipment through USB is its only use and the computer looks brand new too. When I powered it up it would just go to a blank screen when trying to load windows vista. I went into the BIOS setup using F2. I found the clock was way off.  I set the clock and check to see what else I could adjust..(not much). The computer now gave me an option of booting in safe mode where many files scroll by. Each time it would stop on Mup.sys. Resetting the BIOS to defaults did not help. I ran Spinrite which is DOS base program booted from the CD drive and no errors were found. I look to me the computer is waiting for something, perhaps a response from some hardware?  I tries using control + f10 to restore the computer but it seems there is no hidden restore partition on the 80gb hard drive.
Any help would be appreciated.
