Hi --
I've had this problem with an Aspire 7738G notebook for about three weeks now, and haven't been able to figure out how to fix it. Before this started happening, I never had a problem with shutdowns on this laptop. This laptop is running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit.
When the laptop is ordered to shut down, it goes through the process and properly powers off. Four seconds after it's powered off, it springs back to life and reboots.
When the laptop is ordered to hibernate, it goes through the process and properly powers off. Four seconds after it's powered off, it springs back to life and properly resumes from hibernation.
If the laptop goes to sleep -- whether by the cover being closed, it being ordered to sleep, or going to sleep because of power settings -- it puts itself in a sleep state, springs back to life after four seconds, and Windows then complains that it wasn't properly shut down. The user session is lost.
Nothing I've tried has solved this. None of the devices (at least the visible ones) with power options is set to wake the PC up. I can't find any error in the Windows event log to help be debug this (other than the one after Windows resumes from sleep that says that the prior shutdown was unexpected). I have reset the BIOS settings. I have reflashed the BIOS. I don't know why this problem suddenly began and I can't figure out how to put an end to it.
Why is this laptop suddenly doing this to me, and how do I fix this?
Thanks
CL
