I have the Helios 300 and I was wondering if what fan settings would be best (with coolboost on) when gaming? I worry if I max it out, if it would wear or something.

Personally, I set the fans to maximum speed most of the time. Unfortunately the fan curve that Acer has set isn't good at all and the fans never reach full speed even if the GPU reaches 80C, so I have to turn them up to maximum speed. I prefer having my GPU working at around 70C and having fans on max, than seeing reach 80C.

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

  • Yes CoolBoost is best for gaming. The fans should last the life of the laptop so I wouldn't worry about it. I keep CoolBoost turned on. It's better to have lower temperatures than higher ones.

I see but when you specifically do gaming, do you choose the max option? or auto?

Well then, I shall set max settings during heavy gaming! I trust your opinion about the fans wont degrade if max RPM'ed during most gaming hours.

Unfortubately they will degrade quicker compared to when they are set to auto. You have to choose whether you want your components to run cooler(will increase their life, but for that the fans will degrade faster) or let the fans run on auto curve, which will let the components run hotter.
