in the system information it is not written anywhere that it can be overclocked upto 3.8GHz . it mentions only its base frequency i.e. 2.8 GHz.

  • The 7700HQ has a base clock of 2.8 GHz and with turbo boost up to 3.8GHz. The 7700HQ cannot be overclocked, but can be modified a little bit. I'll explain below:

When one core is doing most of the work, the 1 core is boosted to 3.8GHz.
When two cores are working, I believe two cores are boosted to 3.8GHz
When three or four cores are working, it boosts the 3-4 cores at one time is boosts them to 3.4GHz.

These are the factory boosts and frequencies. The max frequency allowed is 3.8GHz since it is not unlocked. However, it is possible to make all cores boost at 3.8GHz, but it will greatly increase the heat that the CPU generates. In reality, it is best to either leave it alone or underclock to decrease heat output and power consumption.

  • Added: You can view the frequency in Task Manager under Performance and CPU.

  • Another: 2 cores is 3.6GHz. My mistake. I wish we could edit posts.

You cant overclock hq series only series u can overclock is K series of intel,o bw download and install throttlestop in ur lappy,u can tweak alot of settings to get the best of ur cpu like undervolting or keeping the cpu clock to turbo boost high nearly all the time i.e. in speed shift change the value of 128 to 32 or less(I dont recommend less),but 32 should keep the cpu running at turbo boost nearly all the time good while gaming or any cpu intensive tasks but undervolting is a great option though.

how this boost up works, what i have too do to make the cpu work at this frequency of 3.8GHz
