Aspire S7 peeling

My gf just received her Aspire S7 on Monday.  Beautiful piece of hardware.  Works very well.  But we have noticed one thing.  the upper right of the display appears to be peeling away.  We thought maybe it was a protective cover that it shipped with, but it appears pretty thick, and doesn't budge at all.  Is this something commonly seen that we need to pull off, or is the screen is this some coating of the touchscreen that needs to be replaced?  We both have had multiple touchscreen devices and have never seen anything like this.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

If you look to the left of the Acer logo below the screen, you see a large jagged half circle.  After sitting overnight, closed, she opened the unit, and this was bubbled up.  It has the feel of thick scotch tape, and is kind of crackling off.  There has been no exposure to moisture and outside of charging, it has only been in the leather case.  Any ideas on what this is?  Should this be RMA'd?  Is this part of the glass that will keep coming off?
