I have an Acer Aspire E1-771-6607 and it will not boot to Windows.  Everytime it starts, it says that it is Preparing Automatic Repair.  No matter what  repair option I try, it always ends at There was a problem resetting your pc. No changes were made.  I have tried to boot from a recovery USB drive that I made when I got the pc.  Originally it came with Windows 8 and is now on Windows 10.

I have tried to boot from a Windows 10 boot able USB drive and I still get the same result:  There is a problem resetting your pc.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can't repair windows 10 with windows 8 recovery drive. The only thing you can do is install windows 8 from the recovery drive on your laptop and then update to windows 10 if you can.

Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

first of all, try if pressing Alt+F10 keys at boot, will bring up windows 10 recovery and let you choose to repair your installation:

    if it's not working:

    1) download a windows 10 iso using Microsof tool:
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691209
select the proper windows 10 version (the same installed on your laptop) and choose to save it as iso file when prompted
    2) download Rufus:
    http://rufus.akeo.ie/?locale=en_US
plug your USB flash drive, run Rufus then:
select ISO image from the dropdown menu near "Create a bootable disk"
click on the little icon on the right and browse to the windows 10 downloaded iso file
as Partitions scheme select "GPT partition scheme for UEFI"
    as File system select "FAT32"
    click on Start
wait until it finish, then uplug your USB flash drive
    3) backup all your personal data
    4) Reboot to BIOS, pressing F2 at boot, then press F9 to load default and F10 to save and exit
    5) plug your USB flash drive and at boot press F12 (if F12 doesn't work, see if it auto-recognise the USB flash drive or press F2 to enter BIOS and enable F12 boot menu under BOOT tab), choose the USB flash drive as bootable device

    6) check if you are able to repair your installation

    I'm not an Acer employee.
