Hey All,

I live in a hot semi tropical climate zone where average room temperature is 30 Celcius without much of cool air flow (in my room).

I was wondering if any of you are using coolers to keep the temperature down? If so, please suggest which type/model is most suitable for the Predator Helios 300 considering its fan design and location.

P.S: I cannot afford to use AC.

Cheers!

Those temps look alright to me. If 80 is the max it gets don't even sweat it.

It is a bit useful(may reduce your temps a bit) but not necessary to buy a laptop cooler. Download HWiNFO. With this program you can see what your CPU and GPU temperatures are. After you download it run the sensors while gaming. Post the average and max temperatures of your CPU and GPU. If they are good then no need for a cooler pad. If it is overheating and throttling you can undervolt the CPU(doesn't affect performance), which will reduces the amount of heat it generates and therefore the temperature of the GPU will also reduce.
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

I'm not sure if it's worth it for the 300, all it would be doing is moving the air in your room which if it's hot already it will be blowing that same warm air onto the laptop. I have one and it doesn't really seem to affect temps at all, while on another laptop it brought them down 5c maybe. Have you undervolted yet? Undervolting had much more dramatic results for me. You can elevate your laptop from the back (make sure not to block the cooling vents) with a book or something also. Vens advice is good too let us know what your temps are.

The above readings are after using the laptop to play GTA V for about 25 mins with HWMonitor running in the background.

I notice the GPU and CPU going to about 80 degree Celcius after 40 mins of continously running GTA V .

I have used XTU to undervolt by -0.110V and reduced the Processor Power Management setting in Power profile to 95%.

What do you think? The readings are within the limits right?

Yes Sir, I have undervolted by -0.110V and also reduced the Max. Processor State  to 95%

Please have a look at the screenshot in the other reply.

    Thanks!

    Hello mate,

I live in a hot country too. I had a MSi GT70 which fried because of this. Earlier this year, my Acer fried for the same reason. Now I got the Helios 300 G3-571 and bought a cooler with it (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01J18006K/ref=od_aui_detailpages01?ie=UTF8&psc=1). You definitley need to get one if you're planning to play heavy games.

    Cheers.

You cannot 'fry' a laptop even in hot environment 35C room temperature, because when the CPU reaches very high temps -max 97C it begins to downclock itself to keep the temperature not rising further. The GPU is same too. As Flx said no point of a cooler under the laptop as it just keeps blowing hot air in, which will have the same temp result. In best case scenarios 1C-2C improvement, which is not much. These predators don't need coolers as the fans fast/strong enough to cool the system. If you want better temps just undervolt/repaste the laptop and volla you are cold as ice.

Yea read some reviews and see if it's helped others, it looks a bit fancier than the one I got so it might be more effective. Good luck
