External Microphone

I've just purchased an external microphone which uses the jack socket, but my Aspire V15 doesn't recognise it.

I've tried the advise here http://community.acer.com/t5/Swift-Spin-S-and-R-Series/External-microphone-trouble-Aspire-R3-471T/m-p/428715 to use the cable and connected to the microphone connection - doesn't work.

 

My processor is listed, as suggested here http://community.acer.com/t5/Swift-Spin-S-and-R-Series/Adding-an-external-microphone-s7-392/m-p/450836, but the only available downloads for the processor are a Microcode data file, graphics driver and processor identification utility.  No chipset.  

I'm reluctant to experiment with the identification utility in case it messes up my computer.

Any suggestions for how to get the microphone to work?

We can only presume,  you chkd the new acquisition on another piece of hardware to confirm the microphone itself is not defective  !?
