Hi,

Last night, when I watched a youtube video my laptop froze and when I restarted it, I got the message No bootable device.
The hdd doesnt appears in the BIOS.
I tried alt+F10 to access the recovery mode but it says:
Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed
I also tried to alternate between Legacy and uedi mode but it doesnt work.
What I can do now ?

Send it to Acer before it is too late. They are gonna replace the drive and install you the OS too. I am not sure if they will agree to recover the data from the old drive though after all it is not your fault. You can ask them anyway if they can.
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

Try battery reset first(if your battery is removable just remove the battery for 10 minutes, laptop should not be connected to charger). Then leave the laptop for 10 minutes and then press the power button for 30 seconds(if your battery is removable place the battery back into the laptop and then hold the power button for 30 seconds).

If battery reset doesn't help, then you can open up the laptop and reconnect the drive. And if it doesn't help then there is something wrong with your drive and it needs to be replaced.

If your laptop is under warranty contact Acer support service.

    Hi

It may be a physical failure, the HDD has died.

If it software related and no boot area or whatever then creating another 'disk' to repair / install from could be your next step.

Whether this is a Microsoft one, or a Linux one that will attempt to recover your data (even 1 of each) is something for you to choose. USB or DVD.

    If in doubt please ask.

It is not software related as the BIOS doesn't recognise the drive as if it doesn't exist.

    Hi

Sometimes the software is embedded as firmware and gives the bios it's parameters, but it may still be possible to recover data if the capacity is known, but the firmware is acting dumb.

You suggested reseating etc which is an excellent idea, and may well be the solution, but if not there are other possibilities like piggybacking etc.

    Hi,

I tried the reset. Not working
I opened the machine to reconnect the drive. Still not working.
When I boot the machine I hear no noise from the drive..
If the hdd died , is it possible to recover the data in it?
Maybe, I should try this usb/sata thing people talk about to recover my data?

Another thing, the laptop seems just fine. So I could just go to a computer store and buy a new hdd? Perhaps a bigger one, problem is that I do not have a Windows 8.1 to reinstall the system.

    Warranty expire next month
