Aspire S 13 Overheating

Okay so I just got this laptop, the Acer Aspire S 13-intelcore i7 touchscreen model, and right off the bat I noticed this. It gets really hot REALLY quickly. Is this a common problem? The fan goes nuts trying to cool off and it's going to be really annoying in a quiet classroom. Not to mention the damage it is probably doing to itself overheating like this. Any suggestions? Please?

Was this a new or used computer ? If used then the air passages may need to be cleaned. Also the fan should not be noisy and may indicate a defective fan bearing which will reduce the flow. If new is this still under warrenty ?

A kludge might be to just play a small fan over it or get a platform with built in fans. Doesn't take much airflow to make a real difference.

Also thid party software like HWMONITOR from CPUID.COM can tell you what the actual components are reporting their temperatures. I like to see things under 50C.

It is about two months old. I am gonna call the support system # that came with it when I go back home this weekend. It should be under warrantey so I'll send it in and hope for the best. If they don't fix it I'm going to look into a platform with a fan under it. I tried out the program you reccomended and it is running between 50-70C which I am assuming is really bad.

Not that bad but have seen things go wonkey over 80C.

I got a dual fan pad for under my laptop and to be honest it doesn't seem to help at all. The fan is still going at it for minimum use and it's actually louder than the dual fan pad under under my laptop. I really didn't want to have to send it in because I need it for class, but at this point I have no choice. I just REALLY hope it is something that can be fixed. It did hit 90 and stuff just kind of crashed for a few till it cooled down.

Well could get a couple of $3 ice packs and put one under the platform while the others cool in the freezer.

I can barely keep it under 70 with the fan and it seems to just keep getting worse. The laptop fan itself is louder than my professor and just goes nuts all class. The battery doesn't last well as is and the cooling pad just drains it faster.
