Aspire E5-575G-55F8 Windows 10 Ethernet/Lan not working

I recently bought an Acer Aspire E5-575G, fresh from the (internet) store.

When I connect an ethernet cable it connects fine, but drops off again after a few seconds. It then reconnects automatically, and drops off again. This process continues indefinetely. So it is connected most of the time, but the disconnects which last about 2-3 seconds prevent me from downloading files, watching movies etc.

The Wi-fi connection works just fine, however I own a bad router and rely on cable connection when at home. And problems like this I won't accept anyhow on a brand new laptop.

I have tried downloading the "LAN Driver" found here:

I started "setup.exe", and selected repair in the menu, so I think it should be installed correctly. The problem persists, with no notable change in behaviour.

Any suggestions?

Try the Realtek driver for ethernet:

double check your ethernet cable is in good condition and try other cables too.

choose the windows 10 auto installation.

can you please report the BIOS version too?

@Ironfly I am having a similar issue with my new Acer aspire E5-575G. Ethernet internet starts up well but then slows down, drops and almost stops working showing up messages like "taking too long to connect; check proxy; network diagnostic" . Connect it to wifi and it starts working fine again. There seems no wi-fi connection issues. I have updated BIOS version from 1.13 10/27/2016 to 1.19 (dont remember the date) and realtek network driver from 9.1.406.2015 to 10.16.323.2017 yesterday from ACER website. I have aslo tried to change network adapter advanced properties by disabling "green ethernet; energy efficient; interuppt moderation; shutdown wake-on-lan; wake on magic packet" but nothing has helped. I have aslo tried "network reset" with no avail. Ran an sfc/scannow yesterday that shows up some corrupt file message that was repaired. Again ran a sfc/scannow that did not show up any such message. But even after that the hick-up with ethernet internet connection did not resolve.

You could try a different router.
Or as a potential, relatively inexpensive workaround, try placing a switch between your laptop and router.

Fast ethernet might work or gigabit. Not sure which would give you the best chance. Not sure if that would solve your problem.

Short story: Try going into the ethernet adapter "advanced settings" and disable "Green Ethernet".

Longer story: I was having problems with a long 50 foot ethernet cable. Short cables no problem.
With the long cable the connection would come up for a minute, go down for 10 seconds, come back up and repeat. It was just unpredictable and flaky.

Ran across this post and sadly no help except the pointer to updated drivers. In the investigation to try to determine what realtek model ethernet I have, I was going through the driver properties I noticed a Green Ethernet setting. WTF is that? I googled it and the first post said:
Green Ethernet – this option enables the feature to detect the length of the connected network cable and adjust the voltage accordingly (lower for shorter cables).

Sounds like a candidate to try to turn off given my Acer aspire E5-575G has a problem with long cables and not short ones, I disabled the setting and now have stable ethernet connection. I was going to blame the cheap 50 ft cable I bought on ebay for $5, but it worked well on an old laptop, so that was hard. Either way, saves me from having to go a round with the seller.

Really long Win10 details on disabling Green Ethernet. There's a lot of steps just to get to the driver settings, but don't worry, it's easy. There might be other ways to get here, but this was the clearest and hopefully repeatable way. Hope this helps someone! (Sadly windows changes from time to time. If that happens, another repeatable path is to bring up the "Device Manager" and find the Realtek network adapter, right mouse click it to get the properties window and go from there.)

Open "Settings" app. Click on the windows icon in the lower left corner and then click on the gear icon.
Click on the Network and Internet icon in the settings app.
Next, click on the change adapter options icon.
Right mouse click on the "Ethernet" icon. The one specifically that says "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller". Select the Properties menu item.
Select "Configure" from the "Networking" Tab of the properties window.
(FINALLY) Click on the advanced tab of the Realtek PCIe... Properties window. Select the "Green Ethernet" property, change the value to Disabled AND click the OK button to save the setting.

OOPS. Seems that my suggestion to disable Green Ethernet was already mentioned by aknod in his November post, but I missed it.
Anyway changing just that setting worked for me and my specific situation. Hopefully it can work for others too.
