Iconia W510: SD Card Randomly Disappears

Hello,

I have an Iconia W510 and I added an SDXC 64 GB in it. I had no problems.

However, it appears that sometimes, the SD card is not readable anymore by Windows 8, it is like if it was not there anymore. I have to remove it and reinsert to have it work again.

Any idea where this can come from ?

Many thanks in advance,

David

If the problem just started, you may try a Windows system restore. Have you tried another SD card in it? If so, does the other card do the same thing? You could also try formatting the card to see if that helps.

    Hello,

No, the problem appeared immediately after I got my device.

The problem is that it is random. When it stops working, I remove it and reinsert it and it is found again. This is a big deal as all my files on the SD card are synchronized with Skydrive and very often, Skydrive does not find the files anymore and I have to relaunch the syn manually...

I don't have another micro-SD card so I cannot test it.

Is, in the Driver Package 2.08, there any updates for the SD card driver ? Could I download a driver from the SD card reader manufacturer website ?

Yes, all drivers for the device are in the driver package. You are free to try any driver you want. I would also try to borrow or find another way to test the device with another card, to see if it could be an incompatibility with the card or formatting.

I could not find any SD driver in the Driver Package 2.08. What folder is it in ?

What is the name and model of the SD card reader (so that I can try to download another one) ?

It may be the SDXC card. I would use Device Manager, DISKMGMT and/or DISKPART (in Win 8) to see if the card is being recognised properly.

I have used a number of 16 and 32 GB SD cars with mine, no problem but those are all SDHC.

Mine shows up in Control Panel>Device Manager>Disk Drives as a "SD Memory Card" and a Microsoft drver from 2006 (latest driver).

    Hi,

I have the same problem. It seems to happen more often when I have heavy sd card load, then the sd card disappears.
