I've had this laptop 4 yrs and have never cleaned the fan or vents...or anything.  Recently had overheating and shut downs.  I had hoped there'd be a panel to the fan but I think not.  Every vid on youtube involves what looks like almost complete disassembly of the laptop.  I don't know what I'm doing and don't feel comfortable disassembling my entire laptop.  Yet I'm certain I have a big mat of cat hair and dust blocking my exit vents.

What's the minimum I have to take apart to clean the vents and fan?  Photos &/or diagrams and instructions showing what screws to remove etc would be great.  I'm a fairly confident user but have never done any type of laptop or electronics fiddling.  Is this something a careful newbie can tackle w/o getting into trouble?

Thanks!

Rather than disassembling, I'd first try vacuuming the air intake port. Then vacuum blower into air exhaust port. Repeat vacuuming air intake port.  Jack E/NJ

Thanks Jack.  I gave it a good vacuuming.  I had forgotten that I could feel a fan exhaust!  Don't know if it's all gone but immediate improvement and noticibly cooler.  I'm out of compressed air but will give it a shot and another vacuum soon

Is it accurate that to clean the fan exhaust from the inside you have to basically disassemble the laptop?

Google "v5-571PG" "disassembly" "fan" with the quotes and you'll see in the videos what you're up against in order to access the fan. A vacuum cleaner with a blower attachment is much easier and usually does the job. Jack E/NJ
