How to re-enable keyboard illumination when trackpad is touched?

Hello recently picked up a TravelMate X3 TMX349-G2-M-5625 running Win 10 Pro.

From a Windows or driver update, I have lost the ability to have the keyboard illuminate when you touch the trackpad.

I called and spoke to Acer support. They tried to convince me that this is normal and not a functionality on ANY Acer laptop.

Also, have lost the Elan tab on the mouse settings page. see attached image below for reference.

Support told me that this is normal due to a Windows update. Smiley Frustrated

I've tried deleting and re-installing the Elan drivers from Acer-Touchpad Driver, Date: 2016/12/02, Version: 13.6.8.2, Vendor: ELANTECH

Checked the bios settings and enhanced trackpad-I think that what it's called- is enabled.

I'm at a loss and would appreciate any and all advice.
