Acer Aspire V5-571P-6490 - Top separating from display

I've read the posts about the cover of the Acer laptop separating from the display and cracking the screen when closing the laptop.   MINE TOO!!   Fortunately I was able to duct tape the corner (right lower side opposite power location) before I experienced any damage to my screen and now have reminders NOT TO close the laptop...   I now put it into sleep mode to shut down with cover open.   What a pain to have to do this!    

 

I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a fix to this problem, other than Acer, who won't even acknowledge they have a problem...   It's a shame.  I really did like my laptop - now?  Not so much.   Anyone have a recommendation on a good, reliable, reasonably priced laptop to replace it with or a DIY fix to this one?

Following. Same problem. Like you, looking for a solution
