Hello,

I've a probelm, I get a message "missing operating system" on my aspire one notebook that has windows 10 as OS, or it just opens normally then after a while load the message: "insert boot device..etc"

PS . I got this Windows version from Microsoft itself when it promoted this free version for a while some time ago

Can anyone here help me with that?

Thanks,

Nancy

enter BIOS at boot pressing F2

check if your HDD is listed on main tab or under bootable devices

    Thanks for your reply.
This is what i found in 2 different times, following eachother, entering BIOS:

    Info page:
    Hdd model number: listed
    Hdd serial number: listed

    Boot page:
    Legacy Bios: disabled
    Hdd: listed

    The other time:
    Hdd model name: none
    Hdd serial number: none
    Legacy bios: disabled

It does happen that sometimes it starts normally (and then ask me to insert boot device, and other times it doesnt start)

Shall i try to switch from legacy to uefi?
    What will be the difference?

    Thanks

Legacy is disabled right now, try to switch to Enabled.

the main difference is partition scheme on HDD/SSD, there are also some other things but it's worth a try to switch.

by the way, that missing HDD is not a good sign, i strongly suggest you to backup all your personal data if you are to boot, then take your laptop to a computer shop and have your HDD checked.

I dont find an option to make it "enabled", just legacy or eufi options.
Shall i switch to eufi & try?

I already made a backup but i'm still having hope that i can fix it myself, specially that sometimes it starts normally.

    Thanks

I also have "Secure Boot: Disbaled" and cannot choose it to change it.

yes switch to UEFI, don't mess with secure boot.

    after switching to eufi:

No bootable device hit any key

    ok
boot option menu: no menu shown
Enter to select option (no options shown, so i just hit enter)
& then i hit ESC & it asks me to restart pc
of course to have the same messages again
i guess it's not a solution in my case
i'll switch back to legacy, ok?

    yes, switch to legacy.

as i told you, can be your HDD/SSD just going south or the motherboard controller.

if you are able to boot at least once, backup everything you need ASAP!

i think the best will be unplugging the HDD from your laptop and connect it to another PC using an external USB HDD bay and copying all you need, then do a scandisk - sectors check.

scandisk is a sort of "stress test" for your HDD, so you can image if it fails during scandisk without having your files backupped.
