I have narrowed down my search for a new gaming laptop to the Acer Predator 17 G9-793-79V5 and another laptop from a competing manufacturer that costs about $1900. It seems like Acer has a pretty good support apparatus in place, but my concern is about the discussions I have seen in this forum about the thermal paste used by Acer being subpar. It seems that there is an idea floating out there that it is a given that the Predator G9 is going to suffer from overheating under relatively little stress.
Is this true? I'm so close to pulling the trigger and getting the G9. My concern about the other laptop, in case anyone was wondering is that the company seems to have a small contingent of support technicians, and that they are known to be unaware of what software even comes preinstalled on the machine. So, it seems to be a situation where buying a laptop from them is one where the buyer should be willing and able to handle any technical issues that crop up on their own. I am definitely not in that category. And I'm almost at the point where I'm about to give up on being a higher end laptop. It just seems like there are so many lemons out there, and poor support all around.
