Hey guys.

My laptop restarts randomly in the middle of netflix, or me playing a game, or doing just about anything. Sent it for repairs but that did nothing. They wanna take another stab at it. Buddy of mine took a look for me for a few things and he said it may be the power supply or the video card that's getting screwy. Thoughts?

What type of temperatures are you seeing on the GPU and CPU?

so i just played a few rounds, and it was running between low 50s and mid 70s (C). when I'm running the the interwebs its running at about 34.

Well it sounds like the thermals are fine.  If it were me I'd probably try doing a clean install or recovery install before I sent it to them a second time.  I'd want to make sure it's not a windows corruption etc.(But that's just me)  Has it always done this or did it start doing it at some point?  I'm assuming you've done the easy things like uninstalling/reinstalling new graphics drivers/ chipset drivers etc.

First thing, disable automatic reboot on errors:

    windows logo key

    type

    advanced

click on View advanced system settings

    click on Startup and recovery

untick automaticaly restart (so if the system encounter any driver or kernel error will give you BSOD)

    then

    download this tool, whocrashed:
    http://www.resplendence.com/download/whocrashedSetup.exe

before running it, browse to C:\windows\minidump
delete all files apart the first 2-3 files (newest)
then install whocrashed and run it
    click on Analyze
    report here the result.

Followed the instructions, however when I got to the C: drive and opened up the windows file, there was no minidump. Maybe I didn't look in the right place. Otherwise so far so good. I downloaded the program and ran it. Analysis reads:

    "Crash dump directory: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump

Crash dumps are enabled on your computer.

No valid crash dumps have been found on your computer

I'll keep you posted on how things go throughout the day.

ok, so there's no driver crashing.

you can try one thing, switch to discrete GPU (nvidia) pressing P1 key on your left and check if your laptop still reboots.

can you please report your BIOS version too?

    windows logo key + r

    type

    msinfo32

    report BIOS DATE/Version string

Hey sorry for the super late reply. I've been away.

    the BIOS Version/Date reads "insyde V1.03, 2016-05-03"

I couldn't figure out the P1 key thing. But i will say so far so good.

GX-791 doesn't have integrated GPU (Intel hd graphics), it has the nvidia GPU only, therefore it doesn't have the option 'use only discrete graphics'. The problem is something else.

Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.
