Acer 5530G Hard disk replacement.

Hi,

I would like to replace my current HDD with a new SATA 3 with a larger size.  Does anyone know if there is a restriction on the type and size limit of the internal HDD, either physical, i.e. connectors or via the BIOS settings?

Thanks

Kevin

I'm doubtful that a SATA 3 drive will work.

It appears from the information I have available that the system shipped with SATA drives up to 320 GB.

Some of the drives were (SATA 1.0, Serial ATA Revision 2.5).

Hi thanks for the reply, so what about SATA 2?  I am just looking for a way to get the HDD capacity above 750GB, there are also hybrid drivers out there a Seagate Momentus XT(Which is SATA with some solid state features) for example which states that it is compatible with any SATA style, but they will not confirm if that includes my laptop, so I was hoping Acer community may know?

    Thanks again.

On the list of the replacement HDDs are SATA 2 drives.

I have used SATA 3 drives on older laptops without any problems.

Using SSD will speed up your laptop too, there are SATA 2 OCZ Vertex 3 on the market.
