Hello,

I'm wondering if the mainboard of my laptop has an additional SSD Port for a second SSD (not counting the SATA Port for the HDD, since it is to slow) without having to get rid of the primary M.2 SSD.  If yes, does anyone know the specs for the second port? Does it support NVME/PCIE?

    @CountDeVil,

    ... the second SSD-slot requires a B-key?

    Yes, that's correct but most SSDs M.2 SATA are B and M key so no problem. Example.

    @vorob,

    So the second slot doesnt support PCIe X4 NVMe speeds?

    Yes, only SATA.

    Hello,

    It's very easy to check it by removing the door located on the bottom of the laptop (only two screws):

    • 1st slot
      CON5102: SSD M.2 2280 SATA 3.0 and PCIe X4 NVMe (both supported)
    • 2nd slot
      CON5103: SSD M.2 2280 SATA 3.0

    As the SSDs are superposed, you'll need a small metal bracket.

    Thank you. Only one followup: I read in some forums, that the second SSD-slot requires a B-key? Is that right?

    They deskribe the shape of the connecting part of the SSD. Just like a key. There are notches in the SSD card that correspond with the hooks in the SSD port. There are three types M-key, B-key and MB-key. The latter fits in both SSD ports. Here is a helful link:

    Do they differ in performance too?

    M-key SSD in a M-key slot VS MB-key SSD in a M-key slot.

    Absolute SSD noob here.

    Hi drunkenpeasant,

    No difference as the interface is always SATA 3.0: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.2

    I noticed my Predator is missing the second SSD location.  Is this normal? Most pictures I see on these forums have the second mounting bracket?

    Thanks,

    Kyle

    Hi,

    In the end I had the same problem. I phoned Acer an the technitian toled me that the Predator 15 with a GTX 1060 does not have a second SSD slot. So I bought a 2,5 SSD and replaced the HDD.

    Yeah when I talked to customer support via chat, they said they would send me the required hardware (after I pushed back that it should have had it all along). However, I'm concerned that they may just be sending me the bracket extension and not the mount for the SSD to connect to the motherboard. The technician couldn't give me a clear answer when I tried to clarify and was quick to exit the chat.

    Even if it is the mount, I then have to figure out how to install it onto the motherboard!

    I have the same issue I am missing the 2nd Slot Mount I have a GTX 1060 as well.

    so quoting laurent:

    • 1st slot
      CON5102: SSD M.2 2280 SATA 3.0 and PCIe X4 NVMe (both supported)
    • 2nd slot
      CON5103: SSD M.2 2280 SATA 3.0

    this means I'm still safe to use X4 NVMe. Is there a way to solder the 2nd Slot SSD Mount xD
