Predator 17X GX-792-70JL available drive bays

I would like to know what drive bays are available in the Predator 17X (2017). I see the system comes with two drives, an SSD and a HDD drive, but there's no mention of the interface type. I suspect the two drives are connected with SATA600, and if you stripe those you can get 1200MB/s max speed.

I'd like to go faster, which means I need faster interfaces like M.2 or PCI Express with NVMe support. Anyone who has already optimized the x17 for maximum disk performance?

    Hello,

Your information are correct, as I have a new 17X GX-792 and I could check this information.

Is there any document where you find the technical information ?
Do you know where I can find a technical Maintenance documentation of this new Acer 17X?

    Thank you and Best Regards

    Hi nbig95,

Do you know where I can find a technical Maintenance documentation of this new Acer 17X?

Unfortunately this document is reserved to the Acer technicians. If you need other specifications, I will able to give them to you as much as possible.

Hi, just to continue to this topic..
..so I have Toshiba NVMe SSD (thnsn5256GPU7) in my Predator x17 factory installed and the two other M.2 slots are free.
If I would want to add a second SSD drive to the M.2 ports, while keeping the factory installed SSD drive in use, the only way to do it would to purchase a SATA 3.0 based M.2 drive since NVMe drives would be incompatible to these two free M.2 ports?

NVMe drivers will work, but they will perform at sata 3 speeds, so there is no need to spend extra money for NVMe drive, when you won't get most of it.

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

I have the Predator 17 GX-792-7448 and am having some trouble with adding another SSD. I cannot seem to fit the M2 drives into the remaining slots (it seems as if the tooth is slightly offset in the M2 slot vs the ssd). I can easily fit my second ssd into the slot already occupied by the drive my laptop shipped with, but I cannot slide either ssd into the other two remaining m2 slots. Am I missing something?

There are 3 types of SSD slots M key, B key and M+B key. The 1st slot where the pre-installed SSD is installed is an M key slot. The other 2 slots are B key, so you need a B key M.2 SSD. It is best to always purchase M+B key SSD as it can fit in both M key and B key slots.

    Hello All,

I have upgraded my laptop (predator 17x) with an additional m.2 ssd 2280. My problem is with the 22110 slot. I cannot find one anywhere online that would fit. I am pretty sure that it needs to be SATA as the only PCIe slot is with the provided m.2 that comes from the store. Up above there is mention of a metal bracket so a 2280 can fit into the 22110 slot. Does anyone know where I can find one?

    Thank you very much

Yes you would need a bracket(extender) to be able to secure the m.2 ssd drive in place the part number is 33.Q04N5.001 hope this helps :)

@xapim So I purchased the bracket. It appears to fit, but im confused about how it goes together. Do I attach it to the SSD first so when I put the SSD into the slot the two holes on the bracket fit the screw hole and nub on the case? The bracket only fits one way onto the case. Im pretty sure the SSD fits one way onto the bracket. Do you have any place where I can get some replacement screws that fit into the case? They are longer and a little thicker (phrasing lol) The screws that are recommended for the bracket only fit the screw hole for the SSD and not the screw hole into the case.

    Thank you

ChizzleTooth you have to attach the one end of the bracket to the ssd to expand it to reach the other end then attach the ssd normally to the slot also the bracket should already come with the necessary screws
