I have been watching movies from my laptop to a TV via HDMI cable for a while, I have also had Windows 10 installed for a long time.  Recently I went to watch a movie via HDMI and the video plays fine but now audio.

I used my IPhone via the same HDMI cable and it plays and sound fine on the TV.

I have went to the sound box where it shows

  1. Digital Audio (HDMI) not plugged in
  2. Speakers (Realtek) which is set as default.

When I go to enable the HDMI it will not allow me to set it as default or do anything.  There is a red arrow pointing down by the monitor icon?  In addition, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver and made sure it was updated.  Even when my HDMI is plugged in I get this not plugged in icon.

Looking for solutions?

Thanks,

Kevin

did you re-install Intel graphic drivers or Realtek audio drivers?

HDMI audio is managed by Intel Graphic Drivers, so my suggestion is:

    windows logo key + x

    Device manager

    click on Display adapters

right click on Intel graphic drivers

choose to uninstall and tick to uninstall software too

    once done

reboot and let windows download and re-install drivers

then check if you can select Digital Audio HDMI with your HDMI cable plugged on both TV and laptop

I re-installed Real Tec drivers, I used the intel scan to see if I needed any drivers to be updtaed and it returned that all were up to date.

By uninstalling the graphic driver and re-installing them it worked great.

    Thanks,
