Hi I bought a brand new Acer One 725 today which came with 2 GB Ram and 500 GB hdd. It came with Preinstalled Linux. I have purchased Windows 8 Pro directly from Microsoft. I used the USB tool to boot the Win 8 from USB to install it on my netbook since it does not have a dvd drive. It is going into blue screen after instalation when just before it prepares to the desktop. The Installation was 100% and it also restarted 2tice, but when it says preparing devices, it gose to a bluescreen. However I used the same USB drive to install on my other Asus laptop and it work like a charm. I tried this several times and it seems that it is a problem with the laptop's bios or so. I also contacted Microsoft and they said it was a problem with this laptop. But this Laptop is compatable with windows 8. Please help me as I spent 3500 on the Windows

Thanks for your response. The Error I was getting is

IRQL not less or equal ( blue screen error )

However this is what I did to fix it. I removed the wifi card and then installed Windows 8. It completed 100% and restarted 2twice as the process goes. Then It started with configuring the devices and it went 100% and booted to desktop. Then I downloaded the latest windows 8 Wifi driver for Atheros from the Acer Website using a different computer. Then installed the Driver completely. Shut down the computer, and reinserted back the wifi card and booted it. The first boot it would not go through but restart it again and it would boot to windows successfully. I tried this process several times and it worked the exact way.

This may be a difficult or not a convenient way but once in a while its OK as we hardly reinstall windows 2wice or thrice a year.

    Thanks hope it helped.

You are correct in stating that the Aspire One 725 is on the list of Windows 8 compatible products.

Windows 8 should install and operate correctly, although 3G on the platform is not supported.

Can you provide the error messages that you are seeing on the blue screen?

It may provide someone in the community a way to help you troubleshoot the issue.

I have the same problem. I tried installing Windows 8 and after doing so, the computer restarted and showed the BSOD.

I searched online and the problem lies in the BIOS. The BIOS version on the laptop when bought was version 1.xx and you need to upgrade it to version 2.xx from the Acer website. After doing this Windows 8 should work.

Unfortunately, the Aspire One 725 I bought a few months back is slightly different than the model available today. The difference is a minor hardware change. When I try to update the BIOS to version 2.xx on my netbook, it ends with an error and I am, therefore, unable to install Windows 8. Acer needs to fix this as soon as possible.

Anyone has any ideas of how I can bypass this and install Windows 8 without opening up the machine?

If I need to open up the machine, what do I need to do, and is it a sure shot that I will be able to install Windows 8?

I can confirm that anisin84's solution described here
    http://community.acer.com/t5/Acer-Notebooks-Netbooks/Cannot-Install-windows-8-on-Brand-newAO-725/m-p/6155#M1645
solves the problem. The error is caused by an incompatibility of the Atheros Wifi card installed in the affected Acer models with the default driver that comes with Windows 8. Removing the card during install, updating the Atheros W-Lan driver via a download from another computer once Windows 8 is running, then replacing the card and rebooting twice is the fix.

Note, however, that opening your device may void your warranty. Make sure you know what you are doing!

Wifi driver is the problem. My comproved solution:
1-Make a clean installation in other computer (desktop in my case.
2-Download and install the official Acer wifi driver for Win8.
3-Make a system backup and restore it in the notebook (v5-531-967B4G32MAKK in my case).
    4-Reboot et voila!!
