FN keys not all working on V5-571 - Windows 10

Hi all,

I have the Acer Aspire V5-571 laptop, and whilst I know that Windows 10 is not officiailly supported by Acer on this laptop, what I am about to explain used to work perfectly well on Windows 10 when I did an upgrade from Windows 8.1 to 10 last year. Now I have done a clean installation of Windows 10, they do not work.

Basically the FN key only works for certain functions like volume and brightness and that's it - nothing else. I want to be able to use it for the other FN functions like the music controls for example. As I said, these FN keys worked fine in Windows 10 before November, when I formatted the machine and decided to do a clean installation of Windows 10. Now they do not work and I was wondering what I need to install to get them going, and if anybody could point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Hi,

You could try reinstalling the keyboard diver, expand Keyboards in Device manager, right click Standard PS/2, Properties, in driver tab uninstall it, reboot and let Windows install the driver, I'm not sure it will solve the problem but worth a try.

Here's some possible workarounds......

1. Install vanilla Windows 8.1

2. Get your Windows 8.1 drivers from Acer's website

3. Download the media creation tool to upgrade to Windows 10 Anniversary (Select "Upgrade this PC now"). This type of upgrade is not the same as a clean install.

4. Or try an older Windows 10 ISO version that worked. Use rufus to create installation media with the same settings that are on the homepage.. UEFI-GPT/FAT32/ISO

5. You can try to run the intel driver update utility

6. I'm assuming you have the latest BIOS. I'm also assuming you are not in legacy mode. Don't try legacy mode. There's a lot of people with your computer model that had major problems switching to legacy mode.
