Uneven core temperatures G5-793-72AU, CPU throttles even under 70C

I'm getting very uneven CPU temperatures across 4 cores on my brand-new G5-793-72AU.  EDIT: Temp range difference seems much higher than I originally stated --- this is running Prime95 for only a couple of minutes as it made me very nervous to see cores hitting 90C on load:

I have also noticed that the laptop occasionally starts randomly dropping FPS by at least 50% (dropped to 24-25 in when it normally runs at 75) in games where it normally caps at FPS limit set, during those massive FPS drops the Windows 10 Event Viewer says CPU throttling has occurred as a result of firmware.  This is even with the CPU cores running at less than a max of 70/71C according to HWinfo!    (Edit: Laptop set to performance power mode and plugged in during the entirety of gaming session)

Is my laptop defective ?  Should I try to exchange or return it to the store ?  This performance is very worrisome...

Byte the bullet and repaste it with a good thermal paste.

This lowered the temps by about 20 degrees for me and the cores are + or - 1 degree from each other
