Aspire Z1-622 runs very slowly

I have an Aspire Z1-622  Pendium N3700 1.60GHz RAM 4GB 64 bit, and it runs very slowly.  I sell online and when I try to upload pictures it stops and doesn't upload the pics.  I have tried Chrome, Edge and Firefox - all the same result.

When searching the web, I get the spinner for much longer than I should.  My son has a new laptop and runs 2-3 times fater (at least).

When scrolling through Facebook it freezes and I have to wait approx 20-30 seconds for it to "release" and continue to scroll.  It does this in other programs also.

I've had the computer for a few months and am very disappointed in its performance.

Thank you!

OK, then try to use adwcleaner and eset online scaner (after adwcleaner, for reboot needed).

To check for hard drive errors you can use console command (reboot needed to execute scanning):

    chkdsk C: /F /R

To be completelly sure your disc is ok you can check it via 'mhdd' program but in this case you have to burn liveCD with it.

    1. What operating system (windows 7/8/10)?

    2. Have you scanned your computer for unwanted/malicious software? If yes then which programs?

    3. Have you checked hard drive for errors? If yes then which programs?

    It has Windows 10

I use AVG and have it set to run a virus scan every morning.

I'm not sure how to check for hard drive errors?  I did a defrag of the disc but no issues were found

I ran both adwcleaner and eset online scanner - I also removed Firefox and a couple of game apps that were pre-installled.  The computer is running faster.

I tried to run chkdsk but it stopped at 10% and didn't go past there - after approx 2 hours.  Does it just take that long or was something wrong?

Thank you so much for all of your help.

in my opinion AVG is too heavy for your PC, uninstall it and use the default Windows antivirus, check if it speeds up your system.

It is normal when hard drive has many slow/defective sectors. I suggest you wait to the end and after it try mhdd.

I let it run overnight - was completed this morning and so far - all the steps you gave me to try seem to have helped.  The computer is running far more quickly than it has been.  Thank you so much for your help!

I removed AVG and am using Defender - the computer did seem to increase in speed once AVG was completely removed. Thank you so much for your help!
