V5-122P-0647 slooooow - CPU high

Trying to fix a friend's slow V5-122P-0647. It's on Windows 10 Home (1511). It's slow down to the point of being not usable. CPU usage in task manager is generally at 99% with no apps running. System and compressed memory task is always using 35%+. Periodically the mouse will freeze and it will blue screen with thread_stuck_in_device_driver error. Takes a long time to boot back up too. Seems everything points to the video driver being the cause.

I updated the BIOS to the latest 2.12 and the video driver is latest as well according to both Windows update and AMD.

It runs a whole lot better if the video driver is changed to the Microsoft basic video driver.

Since the obvious cause is the video driver, does anyone know if Acer, AMD or Microsoft has come up with a fix for the many owners of this model reporting the very same issue? It's a shame that these machins have been basically turned into bricks by software pushed to them.

Been fiddling with this machine. After setting the display driver to Microsoft Basic Dispaly adapter, I managed to do the Windows 10 Anniversary update (1607). As part of the update it updated the driver to the AMD Radeon HD 8210 Version 21.19.137.1 (2016-09-16) driver and the CPU usage was high again and it was slow to use. It looks like the System and compressed memory task name has reverted back to being named System in the latesest windows edition. I changed the video driver back to Microsoft Basic Display Adapter and it has been working pretty good ever since.

Anyone know how I can prevent the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver from updating to the Radeon HD 8210 driver in future?

I hope they release a fixed HD 8210 driver soon.
