Acer Aspire E 15 - M2 SSD Screw and Standoff

I recently purchased the Acer Aspire E 15, 15.6" Full HD, 7th Gen Intel Core i3-7100U, E5-575-33BM laptop off of Amazon. The unit comes with a slot for an M2 SSD which I have successfully installed, but it does not come with the needed screw and standoff to properly secure it in place. I contacted Acer customer service and they were unable to help me.

Manufacturer response to similar questions on Amazon's website was: size: M2.0*3.0 and torque: 2.0±0.2KGF/CM. I purchased screws and standoffs based on these specs through ebay but they did not fit. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or if they knew whether there was a different size I should be using.  Thanks!

  • Hi,

I don't think you need the standoff, screw size is correct but try them without your purchased standoff.

Thanks for the prompt response. I really think a standoff or at least a spacer is important to prevent the SSD from moving about. Granted, the screw would prevent it from sliding out of the slot, but I don't like the up/down movement. If I tighten the screw all the way, then the SSD will be pressed against an ic chip and I don't think that'd be very good.

Please see the video I took:

  • The SSD should be flat but make sure the screw is of right length and goes in smoothly without any extra pressure, it's similar to fixing a WiFi card, you may have to get a second opinion from a Technician.

Just a follow up that I think the manufacturer has been posting on Amazon wrong that the screw is M2. I picked up a couple at a local PC repair shop and another (longer) one at Ace Hardware only to discover that it didn't catch.  If I had to guess, it's an M2.5 or M3.  Either way, I'm now using one of the screws that hold the back panel in place along with a nylon spacer cut to fit as it would take 2 to 3 weeks to ship anything from China.

I have the same issues.  I just bought my laptop last week.  My computer did come with an M.2 standoff, but the screw would not come out of the base nut as shown in this video:

Does anyone know where I can pick a few of these up?

"...been informed that Acer DOES have a part number for the standoff for the SSD on the M.2 slot, if you want to try, it is: Part # - 86.GDEN7.002 Description - Stand-Off / SSD-Screw M2.5*1.8-I (NYLOK) D5T 3.7 STEEL  ...."
