Hey guys, I came across a weird issue with my keyboard recently. Any suggestions?

Description: The laptop keyboard does not work when the laptop is inside a bootloader or BIOS. Only once the OS has been loaded does the keyboard work again.

System details: GRUB 2.02 Bootloader, latest BIOS, Ubuntu 16.04, Windows 10

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Boot the machine
  2. Press the arrow keys on the laptop during the GRUB menu

What should happen: Pressing the arrow keys should elicit a response from the GRUB menu

What actually happens: The menus are completely unresponsive

What's been tried:

  • Restoring all factory default settings in the BIOS
  • Checked for any settings regarding USB devices or keyboards (There are none)
  • Checked for BIOS updates
  • Unplugged external keyboard and rebooted
  • Reinstalled GRUB bootloader

Other Notes:

  • External keyboard works perfectly
  • The laptop keyboard has worked in the past
  • No recent changes come to mind that could've triggered this. Maybe a Windows update?
  • BIOS menu can be entered (fn+F2) using the laptop keyboard, but it can't be used for anything else

    Hello,

I have the same issue with my V5-591G. The keyboard works in the OS but not (anymore) in the BIOS. A USB external keyboard works perfectly.

System details:  BIOS v5.0, Windows 10, Windows 7 (legacy mode)

geravago, did you find a solution?

Nope, I've pretty much switched over to using Linux 100% of the time because of this.
