My desktop is larger than the viewing area on my Acer 223W monitor. Changing resolution doesn't help

I just setup a new HP 705 g2 computer. I had to use a small monitor to set everything up because it ia business enviroment and I did not have access to the Acer monitor. I think everything fit on the smaller but when I attached the larger Acer monitor the destop is larger than the monitor display area and you can lose the mouse pointer and even an icon on the right side. I have reset the resolution several times as well as using the buttons on the monitor but it does help. It seems like it needs a margin or something.

On the old computer we were using a DVI cable but the new computer only has a VGA port but the monitor als has a VGA port so I did not have to buy an adapter or adapter cable

    is your 223W

    X223W

    or

    V223W

by the way, native resolution seems 1680x1050 @ 60Hz

so first thing to check if the resolution is set as above

then you need to press the button marked AUTO on your monitor if you are not able to have your desktop at the correct size.

press button MENU and move with the left-right buttons to the third icon (square with arrows) and select the orizzontal setting and try to fix your desktop size.
