I have an Acer Aspire 5750 notebook running Windows 7 Ultimate 64. I am unable to connect using the wireless circuitry. It can only connect using the wired Ethernet connection. It appears that the problem may be related to my BIOS. The version I have is 1.10. On the Acer support for my particular model laptop, the newest BIOS version is 1.21. There are a total of eleven different versions available between the one I have installed [1.10] and the latest [1.21]. None of the different versions have a description of solving the problem I am experiencing.
I have a Dell Latitude D600, running Windows XP Pro SP3 that has no problem connecting to my network via the wireless connection.
I attempted to troubleshoot the Acer Laptop by running Zorin OS 6 from a USB drive. It too is not able to connect to the network wireless but does connect through the Ethernet cable. This is why I am thinking the problem is BIOS related since that is the only thing in common when launching the two different operating systems and experiencing the same problem with connecting via the wireless on the Acer laptop.
I might add that in both attempts to connect wireless with the two different OS's, I also substituted a wireless USB adapter in lieu of using the internal wireless card [which is the Atheros AR5B97] and still cannot connect wireless. The USB wireless adapter I use can connect when it is placed in the Dell laptop so the wireless USB adapter is functioning OK. My belief is that the Atheros wireless card is not the problem and the registry for Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit is not the problem either. The only thing that is common to the different scenarios I have used has been the laptop BIOS.
I did not want to try and update the BIOS from version 1.10 to version 1.21 since I do not know what changes are made with version 1.21 and if I am required to update the BIOS sequentially from the current version of 1.10 through the eleven different version changes until I finally install version 1.21
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
