My laptop is quite warm and a few days ago began making a humming noise in the area of the fan. How do I go about cleaning it?

That depend on how dusty the environment is, but this one is easy. Turn it over and remove the one screw holding the base door on. You should be able to see if there is anything blocking or rubbing the fan.

Shine a light into the exaust port on the side and see if you see anything inside. Get a can of air, shut down the laptop and blow it out from the exaust and the intake. To clean further, you will have to take it apart.

How old is the laptop? Is it still in warranty?

Thanks for your reply - it's over a year old and no longer under warranty. I don't see anything inside but I'm guessing it's time for a cleaning now?

Unfortunately I may have jumped the gun here - I got so far as getting a new fan, removing all of the screws, but the old fan is really super attached in there. It's as if it's glued to the area near the exhaust port. It dosen't seem to make sense that the laptop would need to be disassembled to remove the fan...right? I'm afraid I've found myself stuck.

Is there any way I could see more instructional figures from this page you posted? Or maybe some advice on what I'm missing? I really appreciate it.

The only other thing it shows is how to remove it. It should not be glued.

Thank you so much for your very kind - and swift - reply! So there was a bit of strong sticky tape holding the fan underneath, it finally gave way with a lot of wiggling and tugging. The tape also served to hold onto some dust balls I couldn not see looking into the port from the outside. Thank you again for your assistance.
