I have an ACER Aspire V5-561p-6489 that do not boot. Black screen, HD light flash but no screen.

I had this problem a year ago and was able to re-flash the BIOS with the Fn-Esc procedure. But I can't find the *.FD file required anymore.

The BIOS on the ACER web site do not have this file.

Can anyone point me in the direction of that file?

    IT'S ALIVE!!!!

I used the isflash.bin file but I had to renamed it.

The link from IronFly's post shows how to rename it.

The BIOS file from the acer web site was name V5WE2217.exe so I renamed isflash.bin to V5WE2x64.fd.

copy to usb stick, put the usb stick into the laptop.

Remove the battery, unplug the power cord.

Hold Fn-Esc key, while holding Fn-Esc I plug the power cord and hit the power button.

It took a few minutes and the laptop came back to life.

Thank you so much for you help, much appreciated.

you need to run the  exe file on another PC and let unpack the files, don't start the flash process or close any error window but browse here:
    C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp\xxxxxxxx.tmp

the folder name changes from system to system, so you need to find it (hint: search by date) and copy the whole folder to desktop, inside you will find the *.FD file.

    Thanks for the reply,

I extracted the file downloaded from the acer web site (latest BIOS), found the .tmp folder but there is no *.fd file in there.

I tried to copy all the files to the usb stick, but no luck.

I also tried to rename the isflash.bin file to isflash.fd but no luck either.

Any other advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks again,

I tried with the link you provided, which is what I had and these are the file I have in the tmp folder

    Ding.wav

    FlsHook.exe

    FlsHokkDll.dll

    FWUpdLcl.exe

    InsydeFlash64.exe

    iscflashx64.dll

    iscflash64.sys

    isflash.bin

    platform.ini

    xerces-c_2_7.dll

I extracted the file with and without admin.

Not sure why I do not get the *.fd

ok, i found some interesing infos for you:

the *.FD files appears only if you do it on Acer devices, if you do the "extraction" on other BIOS devices...you will find only the *.bin.

    Hi,

The bin file is the raw BIOS image. This BIOS was packed with the bin file and not with the fd file in my opinion. I have tried to extract your BIOS on two different acer notebooks and still I was getting the .bin image not the .fd one. I don't think it has something to do on what machine you use for extraction. I was able to extract other BIOS'es and they had FD files from other Acer notebooks even if the BIOS was not intended for that particular machine (eg V5-572P VN7-791G). Even if I try to extract the BIOS for these two machines on my HP desktop PC I still get the .fd file for those BIOS'es.

The checking of the machine occurs after extraction, that's why if you modify the configuration file which is in the folder you can flash a BIOS on any machine, by disabling the checksum checking.

You should continue with the .bin files in the next steps.

To those who cannot find the BIOS isflash.bin because of an error message

RUN THE BIOS .EXE PROGRAM/DOWNLOAD ON A WORKING COMPUTER AND LEAVE THE ERROR MESSAGE UP

    Then navigate to C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp\xxxxxxxx.tmp

You can find the .bin file now!
