PC not running games well and display isn't good

Hello,

I've recently bought the Predator 17x (Nvidia 980) and i'm facing few difficulties with some games.

1- League of Legends

Everything is well, although the shop, chat and map are really tiny. So i'm guessing it's from the game can't meet up with my resolution. If I change it to 1980x1020 it works well but graphics is bad [I don't mind this problem]. And for some reason I keep getting a 2 second freeze during gameplay.

2- Counter Strike Global Offensive

My FPS is extremely low even when I lower the settings, it was first 40FPS but after lowering most settings it jumped to 60. I know 60 is good, but it isn't for a powerful gaming laptop with low settings. Very dissapointing. And sometimes screen freezes to while playing.

3- Overwatch

Runs smoothly and barely any problems. Everything is perfect.

I'm curious if it's from the laptop or the games itself. I'm really not sure and would like someone to help me please. Even when i'm in a game and try to ALT+TAB to change between games and desktop it lags a little [i'm guessing this is a little problem not that much] (never used to happen to my non-gaming laptop when playing league of legends).

You're not changing to the 980M that's why. It's running on the intel card. Some programs don't understand to use the 980m, so go into the nvidia control settings and set which GPU to use on the application in the geforce control panel. Set it to use the 980m not the discrete graphics. That's your problem.

Also, turn your power settings to high performance. This sounds like simple issues that can be fixed.

    Hello and thanks for replying,

Unfortunately my laptop only has 1 Graphics card and it's the GTX 980, it's not the integrated one.

That's impossible, they all come with integrated HD 530 Intel graphics. You do have two. Right click on your desktop you'll see intel graphics properties and nvidia. Go to predator sense you'll see it there too. You do have two, and i'm 1000% that's your issue.

There you go, go select tha app, choose geforce 980m not integrated. that's in gforce control panel.

    I don't really. It's 980 btw not 980m.

  • it usually does not depend to the GPU model if the internal graphics of Core I7 is activated or not. I had a notebook wiht deactivated CPU graphics already. It might be the same here?

But especially reading about the  problem, I would agree it sounds like Core I7 graphics.

I missed that part. I still don't have that specific machine in front of me, but I would check the settings, something doesn't sound right. Boot into the bios, make sure everything is proper.

OK two things stuck out here, are you running all these games in 4k? That's your first problem, 1080p is plenty. I have a 4k screen and rarely game in it, mainly because there's no real advantage yet. I use it for screen real-estate and editing.

Secondly, in Countrerstrike, do you have Vsync on? If you're rate is capping at 60, that could be why.
