Predator XB241H overclocking issue

Hi all

 

Just bought a brand new XB241H for my rig. I cant seem to overclock or even get my refresh rate over 60hz. I called tech support and they said my monitor is "out of warranty" meanwhile I just bought it. Anyway, its connected via HDMI that was included in the box to my MSi GTX1060 6GB GPU. The rest of my specs are as follows:

 

MSi Z97 Gaming 5 MOBO

Intel i7 4790k 4.0ghz

Corsair Vengeance Pro 2x8GB 2400mhz

Kingston 128GB SSD

WD 1TB 7200 HDD

Soundblaster Audigy RX

 

I tried to turn overclocking on the actual monitor and the option is greyed out. I also right clicked on the desktop of Windows 10 and I cant change the refresh rate over 60hz and the same goes for nVidia's control panel. Any suggestions?

First off, nice gaming rig! Your computer build definitely has the horsepower to get a monitor over 60hz. Refresh rates over 60hz are tricky sometimes to get working, let's see if we can try some basic troubleshooting.

 

First off, you certainly have a monitor capable of 144-180hz. You also have an Nvidia 1060, and that's surely a powerful enough gpu. You're going to want to check and make sure that you have the latest version of the Nvidia drivers installed for your card. You don't have to get any beta drivers, the latest stable ones should work fine. The next thing to check is the connection. DisplayPort is the way to go for this kind of setup. While HDMI is capable of 144hz, its difficult to ensure that every port and cable being used is compliant with HDMI 1.3 or 1.4, so it's easier to just ignore this and use DisplayPort to make things simpler.

 

Try using a different DisplayPort cable if you're having issues getting passing 60hz. Some brands work with higher refresh rates better than others. You don't have to go crazy and get a Monster cable, but something non-generic is recommended.

 

Another thing to remember is that with a some setups, the Windows 10 Desktop seems to lock itself to 60hz, but your fullscreen games and software will run at 144. (This is a bug that you may or may not experience, but worth a mention)

 

Have you tried using this monitor with another computer if possible to see if the issue stems from your specific tower?
