Posting this after spending newly two days fighting with my friend's Iconia W4 820 tablet...she had a virus, so we set about trying to reformat it using an external DVD drive with the DVD recovery that Acer sent her. All seemed to be going fine until 8% restoral point and it got stuck copying the file POP010K044X03C0113.swm. We've tried copying the files from the recovery DVD onto a flash drive, using WInDisk manager to copy the file, using the LIST DISK run command, and it does not get past that file name.

We went to Best Buy and they wanted to charge $190 to fix this, and Staples will want the same thing. For a recovery USB drive Acer wants $44.95, which is kind of crazy because my friend HAS recovery media (she only recieved 1 recovery disk, is this normal?) ANY help would be appreciated from anyone on this forum!

Thanks in advance

    Hi, everyone.
I'm the friend referred to in this post, so thought I'd kind of give an update as to what's been going on.
I ended up buying the recovery media from Acer, it's a USB flash drive.
Well, we can get the tablet to boot to USB, but it comes up with this weird-sounding screen, something about welcome to the Acer PXE boot server.
Then there's a message saying that all data will be erased if we continue, but we can't get any farther because the touch screen doesn't work (which makes sense because there are no drivers loaded), and we can't use the buttons to move the cursor like I thought. My friend even tried with a USB mouse plugged into a hub, no joy.
So we're wondering what we have to do now to get my tablet working. I'm guessing a USB keyboard is the only way to be able to click on that ok button.
Also, since I bought the recovery media from Acer, are all the drivers on the flash drive as well, or will I need to download those. Right now I don't care how current they are, I just want a working tablet.
I hope this made sense to someone, my friend can probably give more details since he has the tablet and can see the screen etc.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, I hope someone can help us fix my tablet.

I had thought that you could cursor up and down through the menu with the volume keys and use the power button to select, but I may be confused with the Android tablets. If that doesn't work a USB hub and a wired keyboard to give you cursor keys is going to be the best option. If the keyboard isn't working you are more likely to have a bad keyboard or hub than a problem with the port, since you can boot from it. The recovery media will take you back to stock , with all drivers and preinstalled apps.
