Hi there guys,

My laptop is an Acer Predator 17

i76700HQ 2.6

16GB RAM

GTX 980M 4GB

Basically the new windows update 10 destroyed my files, nothing was working properly,i've tried to restart it to a restore point that i've created ( it didn't worked as the filles were damaged ) i've tried to reset it , (same thing damaged files) i've tried basically all options existent from troubleshooting (F8) as well as resetting the bios to the defaults (F2),i unplugged the hard drive, put it back again, nothing worked so i installed windows from an freeOS usb stick,i removed both of the partitions C(main one) D(second) and created new ones and i installed the windows ,i updatet it,installed all the apps and everything was working fine, untill i decided to update the BIOS/Firmware with the ones that are specified to be installed for my laptop model on Acer website

BIOSAcer1. Update Micro code 2. Update ME version1.104.3 MB2016/04/12
BIOSAcerFixed unable to enter BIOS Setup Utility without optical media drive in Le [...]1.064.6 MB2015/12/11

The thing is , i installed the new BIOS on UEFI mode and not legacy i don't know if it makes a difference or not,but when the laptop restarded, the error - No Bootable Device showed up on screen all of the sudden and it doesn't boot up any further than that ,and i don't know what to do about it, i've run hard drive tests and it works fine, the thing is i'm on legacy mode ( in bios ) right now and it works fine,i had to change it to access my laptop,,but the (UEFI mode) doesn't work for some reason itt keeps showing No bootable device and i don't know why,i've tried to reinstall again windows and delete partitions but F8 doesn't work on UEFI mode

Any ideas on what should i do ?

Also when i try to install again the BIOS i get the error  : The version of ROM file is not newer than that of BIOS,

And i'm so stuck right now,it's my first time posting on a forum for help with a laptop and i've had computers/laptops for about 15 years , because i don't want to buy another hard ..i've tried anything on the internet and i can't seem to make it work.

That's it guys, i really appreciate your help, thanks

to boot under UEFI, windows need to be installed under UEFI not Legacy, because it needs an EFI partition and windows boot manager.

So if you want UEFI, you need to re-install windows.

keep in mind that the USB bootable media to re-install windows (under UEFI settings) must be UEFI compatible, i strongly suggest to use Rufus to create it:

    https://rufus.akeo.ie/?locale=en_US

set Rufus as the screen on the main page.

...and one more of the UEFI essentials is to setup the disc as GPT. If not, it does not discover the disc.

,,. and for me it sound simply like a defective hard disc ... you should check it first to avoid to loose too much time

    Thank you IronFly,it worked.

beststevie, i've erased the partition & created a new one at windows installation using CMD and it automatically converted it in GPT after that, the hard disk is fine, for now..

Loving this quick windows start up !Heart
