Aspire E 15 E5-575G-53G won't connect to certain Wi-Fi points. Atheros issue, or defective?

Brand new E5-575G-53VG here, Windows 10, all up to date (just got today).

Will connect to some Wi-Fi access points just fine (Linksys at home, LG G4 Phone Hotspot), but not others (SonicWall TZ215W Firewall Wi-Fi and TP-Link WR-841ND it seems to fail to associate.

Really bizarre. Tried the latest drivers, tried older (11.0.0.492) drivers I found around this site, and tried with the built-in driver (seems to come with Windows 10) for the device -- all with the same result. Windows Event viewer seems to show it failing to associate, then Windows takes the initiave to disable/enable the adapter, and it never works. Here are the Windows eventviewer events as follows, in Windows > System pasted:

(Event ID 6100)

Result of diagnosis: Problem found
Issue referred to: RNWF MSM Helper Class

Root cause:
Windows could not connect to "Sunshine"
You can try to connect again.

Repair option:
Resetting your wireless network adapter
This will disable and then enable the network adapter "Wi-Fi" on this computer.

Then it follows with events that disable, and enable the adapter, and point out that connecting failed. This whole process takes 6-10 seconds from clicking 'Connect' and typing in the password (and Yes/No to discoverable), and seeing that it Could not Connect in the Wi-Fi list.

These EXACT same messages are the same, regardless whether the 12.0.0.191 driver OR the 11.x driver listed OR the driver from Microsoft (4.x). Reboots in between changing drivers. BIOS up to date. Not sure where to go!

Thank you ahead of time, any helpers.
