W510: keyboard issue

Hello !

I bought a week ago an acer iconia w510, with which I fall in love quickly...but it had a big issue: the keyboard was missing some keys or typing them twice. I precise that the touchpad was ok, and from what I know I did every update avalaible.

So I returned it to the store and took the same one...but it has the exact same problem !! It is a big deal for me because i type  quickly every day for at least 5 hours, so I might have to take another brand if the issue can't be fixed.

Thus, can anyone tell me if your tablet has the same issue ? Or if you know if this is hardware and if it's worth exchanging it once again or if it's on every keyboard ?

Thanks et sorry for my bad English !

This is a common problem - my tablet has it too. I'm holding out for a firmware fix. The latest update 2.08 has sorted the trackpad issues to a large degree but I'm still getting double letters - although perhaps not as frequently as before.

Hey, thanks for the answer, but I don't get it: the guy of acer (by phone) said it was a hardware problem because the letters were doubled even when I typed something in "execute" (maybe "launch", I don't know its English name, but it is accessible by the deskstop and make us able to launch a pogramm by typing its full name)

It may be. The problem is it's an intermittent problem - the vast majority of keypresses are fine, just a few are doubled and it can happen on any key. If you look in these forums, you'll see others have reported it. It's not a big problem for me - just happens occassionally - but it would be nice if it could be fixed.

What did the Acer support guy recommend you do?

Yeah infortunately that isn't ok for me

And he just told me to exchange it at the store.

I guess it's worth trying again with a new keyboard - although many people report the problem in these forums so it's certainly widespread even if not all units perhaps have the problem.

I managed to fix perfectly it with a registry weak, although then I had some problems with the computer crashing! I'm going to work on it again this weekend and will post if I get a stable solution.

Finally I'm gonna exchange it tomorrow, my fingers are crossed !

And I don't relly see what a registry weak is, but I'll look forward for your possible fixing

The new 2.08 uopdate fixes all the issues save for the off and on doubble lettering effect I read about on here

Well I already did it (I just checked by going in the Acer Updater and searching for new updates) and it still doesn't work well.

I agree - the 2.08 update doesn't solve the keyboard problem although it does seem to happen less regularly.

I meant registry 'tweak' not 'weak' .... missed the 't' key... due to the keyboard problem :-/

Btw do you know how to install Office 2010 on my tablet ?

I download it from Office's website on another computer, so I have a key number, but I've no idea on how to "move" it. And I saw some people in the internet saying that it was impossible, but I checked the contract and according to the article 15 we have to right to "move" it every 90 days max...but how Man Tongue

why not just download it from the tablet than put the key in ?? There is a demo version on the site and once the key is put in the full version is unlocked
