My ACER laptop monitor often appears 'washed out'. This is particularly noticable in Windows EXCEL (no grid lines appear). GMAIL is also hard to discern. Is there anyway to improve this?

Have you attempted to adjust the brightness and contrast on the monitor?

    What computer do you have?

I had that problem on my Acer Timeline X 1830T.  Outlook and excel were difficult to read and videos played in Mediaplayer were totally washed out.  I couldn't find a contrast control to correct the problem.

Supposedly adjusting color calibration under the display settings in control panel is supposed to resolve it but it was still washed out.  Acer support confirmed that there is no contrast control on my laptop.

I finally discovered the Intel Graphics Properties controls by right clicking on the display.  It let me reset color calibration to default settings.  There is also a contrast slider control there as well.  After the reset on the graphics options, the control panel color calibration tool allowed me to balance the display brightness and contrast back to normal.
