How do I turn up the volume on my Iconia One 8 tablet?

See Subject line.  This tablet is running Android 5.1.

After asking this question on another forum, I tried the hardware volume button on the side of the tablet.  But even after turning that volume up to one stop short of max, I tried to play the music video on the YouTube app by which I had originally found out that my volume was muted.  But I still didn't hear a thing!  So I figure it must be some software setting that I don't know about.

I went to Settings after seeing your reply, Ironfly.  I found Sound & Notification there, then found Media Volume inside there.  But even after turning that Media Volume up to one stop short of max, I went back to the YouTube app and tried to play a couple different videos that I know have sound.  Yet I still couldn't hear a thing!

But then I was fooling around with the protective holder that I have this tablet in (trying to eliminate anything else that had even a remote chance of affecting what I could hear from it).  And when I brushed something (I have no idea what) on the back side of my tablet, the volume suddenly (& mysteriously) turned on and I could hear the YouTube video.  However, this only lasted for a minute or so, after which it suddenly & mysteriously muted itself.  After a few times going back & forth like this, it became more difficult to turn the volume back on in this way (and I got tired of having to do it so often).

Now I'm thinking I have a bad tablet - one that is worthy of exchange for a better-working one of the same model.  Do you agree?  If so, should I take it back to the store where I bought it?
