Awful ghosting on Predator GN246HL

I recently purchased an Acer Predator GN246HL, mainly because I was interested in 144 Hz and the specs of the monitor appealed to me.

However, while 144 Hz definitely looks nice, I've been somewhat disappointed by the ghosting of this monitor. I do not believe I have a faulty unit as after further research this appears to be a common complaint and is a result of the monitor's 'Overdrive'.

Below is a photo I found online which shows what moving objects look like with this monitor. It's also somewhat noticeable just moving the mouse cursor on the desktop; the pixels behind the mouse cursor appear slightly blue/black as it moves.

Apparently it's possible to disable Overdrive with some Acer monitors, which fixes this ghosting. Is this possible to do with this model, and if so, how?

Thanks in advance.

Very sorry you are havign problems with ghosting. Can you provide a video of exactly what you are seeing so we can look into this? Also, I'm checking to see if there is a way to disable overdrive on this model. I don't have this exact model, so it will probably take a few days before I have an answer.

    Thanks for your response.

Here is a video showing the inverse motion blur caused by overdrive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xq8SvJgHQZY

Hopefully there's a way to turn it down/off somewhere; it can be really distracting sometimes and in my opinion really detracts from the monitor's good aspects. Thanks in advance!

I was able to confirm that this model does not have the ability to disable overdrive. We are researching the ghosting you have reported, and will continue to provide updates to this thread as they become available.

Aw... That's really a shame. This monitor has so much potential but Acer didn't include this option for some reason Smiley Sad

Looks like I'll be returning it then. Thanks for your help anyway!

In regards to the ghosting that is being reported, we were able to duplicate what you see when doing the online test. We compared to the spec for this panel and the system is operating within tollerance for the spec. We were not able to see any noticeable ghosting in game play or general use. At this time we feel this monitor is operating within acceptable range and we do not have any updates to change performance. If you are experiencing serious ghosting issues in game play or normal use, can you please provide a video?

    Can you inform Acer developers to make 27" 3840 x 2160 144Hz 8-Bit IPS Panel w/ Freesync?

I personally found the inverse ghosting rather distracting, and even when moving my mouse cursor I found it to be visible (moreso than in the video). I found it particularly irritating in game's when reading player names or symbols above characters (like in Overwatch) as there was always a visible black trail behind the names/symbola as I looked around.

It seems most people don't mind this, however I found it too distracting. I'd record a video of the issue with player names but I no longer own the monitor.

Thanks for your help regarding the issue anyway Smiley Happy
